ACity 17's train station plaza. Half-Life 2 opens in the same void as Gordon is revived by the G-Man, who states that his "hour has come again". The G-Man inserts Gordon aboard a moving passenger train via teleportation; upon disembarking, Gordon finds himself in "City 17," an urban dystopia that appears to be the remnants of an unnamed city located in eastern Europe or Russia.
