I was too lazy to find it in the Canon material, but this is from the RF 1.4x TC product page on B&H. Lens compatibility in the description: RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM (can only be used within 300-500mm range) RF 600mm f/11 IS STM; RF 800mm f/11 IS STM
I have the Canon 100-400 version II, Canon 400 5.6L Canon RF 800mm F-11 and the Sigma 150-600mm Sport along with both version III Canon teleconverters. My preferred R5 setup would be my Sigma 150-600mm with the Canon 1.4x III converter giving me a 840mm F-9 setup. Bob
I wouldn't do it. It's already a slow lens and the tele-con will only make it slower f9 to f14 in the case of the 2x. Very slow starting apertures! Since I wouldn't do it, I don't know if they work or not personally. Canon tel-cons do not work on all Canon lenses. Make sure the Rf 100-500 is listed
For comparison, these Double-crested Cormorants were shot in 2020 with the 5D mark IV using the EF 100-400mm L and EF 1.4X near the same place as above. 280 feet, 1/1000th, f/11, ISO 1000, 560mm. Double-crested Cormorants - 5D4 with EF 1.4X Extender. Osprey, 200 feet, 1/1250th, f/10, ISO 800, 700mm.
That Kenko 1.4x works well with my 7D II and 100-400 II. Since Dave says it works, you'll be fine. The IQ of the Kenko converter is good, the Canon may be a tick better but that's splitting hairs. One advantage should be the additional focus points.

On a Sony A7Rii body, MC-11 adapter and Canon 70-200 4.0 IS L, 70-300 L, 100-400 II L & 100 2.8 Macro USM, AF works well (or at least as well as the lenses do without an extender). Not used extensively yet, so plenty of time for any glitches to come out.
